| Graaff-Reinet is the forth oldest town in South Africa. This lovely town consists of neat rows of white, flat-roofed Karoo cottages, Cape Dutch masterpieces and ornate Victorian mansions. The Reinet House is a beautiful Cape Dutch house, furnished with a collection of 18th and 19th Century furniture. The gardens have one of the largest grape vines in the world. Many historic buildings have been restored in the town. The Grootkerk and Drosty Hotel and numerous houses are amongst these. Private homes have been declared national monuments. Many of the houses offer accommodation and a chance to sample appetizing local dishes such as Karoo lamb and springbok fillet. |
