WILDERNESS NATURE RESERVE

This beautiful reserve lies between the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua Mountains, close to the picturesque village of Wilderness. The reserve is one of the most important wetlands in South Africa and is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, with 79 water birds listed. Wildlife includes the Cape Clawless Otter, the Grysbok and a great number of marine, estuarine and evergreen forest birds such as the colourful Knysna Loerie. There are numerous day trails in this area and the Outeniqua Express Steam Train passes through this area twice daily.
