The Blue Train

The Blue Train was voted the Worlds Leading Luxury Train at the prestigious World Travel Awards in 1998.
The Blue Train offers the ultimate luxury train experience and travels between Pretoria and Cape Town,
Cape Town along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth, Pretoria to the Kruger National Park, and Pretoria
to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The Blue Train is hauled by electric locomotives for the bulk of its
journey, except the stretch between Kimberley and De Aar, when diesel motives take over. The Blue Tain is
380 metres long and consists of 18 carriages, including 11 passenger cars (two Luxury and nine Deluxe), a
power car and two service cars. The train travels at an average speed of 90km/hour with a maximum speed of
120km/hour.

Rovos Rail, The Pride of Africa, recently celebrated 10 years of luxury train travel. This beautifully
restored, luxury train travels between Pretoria and Cape Town, Pretoria and the Kruger National Park,
Pretoria and Swakopmund, Cape Town and George via the Garden Route, and Cape Town to the Victoria Falls
and Dar-es-Salaam. The train accommodates a maximum of 72 passengers in 32 Deluxe Suites and 4 Royal
Suites all with bathrooms.

The trains are fully serviced travelling hotel trains, each with a lounge, two bars and a dining
section. The capacity and number of carriages of each train varies. The accommodation is basic,
but comfortable. Life aboard is informal and relaxed. Delicious African cuisine is served -
from Cape Dutch and Malay to authentic African dishes. Special carriages carry touring vehicles,
which disembark at each stop to be used for the daily excursions. Friendly, experienced guides
