| South Africa |
| This is by far the most popular way of exploring South and Southern Africa. Roads are generally good and well sign-posted, with major tourist attractions carefully highlighted. Be prepared to drive on the left-hand side of the road, at speeds of 60 km per hour in towns and cities and 100 km to 120 km per hour on national highways. Budget for petrol costs of approx. R4.00 per litre, with most petrol stations staying open 24 hours a day. NB - note that in terms of South African law, petrol cannot be purchased by credit card - you will need to pay cash in Rands. |
